Sarcoma is a rare type of cancer that occurs when abnormal cells in these tissue types grow in an uncontrolled manner. Sarcoma can develop anywhere in the body starting in the connective tissues of the body such as fat, muscles, blood vessels, nerves, bone and cartilage.
Sarcomas are classified into two types: soft tissue sarcomas, which are typically detected in the arms, legs, chest, or belly. Furthermore, primary bone cancers that grow in the bones are called bone sarcomas.
According to global cancer statistics, sarcomas represent about 1% of all cancers in adults and 15-20% of all cancers in childhood .
